Yes, I participate in the online world of Second Life.
Are there any others here that do so?

I have found a Masonic Temple in Second Life that has some very interesting artwork, a library of books some of us may recognize and a recreation of a lodge hall. It is very beautifully done.

But, is all this cool? It seems a bit much, but then I am new to Masonry (only 2nd Degree).

    G'day Martinus

Can you view the artwork without being a member ?

Do you have a link ?

You must have created an account in Second Life. But there is no restriction on who may go view the artwork in this virtual world once you have created the account. There is no link as such as this is not a website, but a virtual world.

The creator of the virtual temple has included "interpretations" of the artwork which seem fairly revealing to me.
And the recreation of a lodge hall is eerily accurate, although there is no description or identification of any of the portions of the lodge.

I think I may know the lodge on there you're talknig about. I checked it out before. Even though i'm yet to join the Craft, I too found it very revealing. I'm on as Mooncrest Burnfield. Look me up sometime. Peace.

It's not that I am unfamiliar with the look of a lodge.
I am concerned with the amount of knowledge being made available in this online world with no controls.

Perhaps a summary of what categories of things should not be posted online....or what artworks and interpretations should not be available. Or maybe if a MM were to come online in SL somehow I would be happy to show them and let them use their more experience to judge if any action need be taken.

Being only a 2nd degree mason, I know many things that I find uncomfortable if they happened to be "out in the open" so I know there has to be things there that should not be. Especially since there is much about 3rd degree that is available there.

Excellent questions and observations... I will have a think about it and be back to post a new thread soon... I think it would be better if this question had its own thread...

Bear with me while I have a think and type a response :)

This second life lodge space is also being plugged at facebook by a Master Mason called
Jeremiah of Hill City Lodge #456, GL of Texas (Austin)

In Second Life it is called Blazing Star Masonic Temple, with the Plumbstone Foundation Museum of Freemasonry and the Robert Moray Research Library and Meeting Center. It is owned by an SL Avatar named Churam Rau, who has only been in-world since 4/21/07. There are two other in-world lodges but they do not have the extensive information available, nor are the designed as accurately.

                      Martinus,
I'll add a few cents here. Since I'm not active in SL and have no reason to be at the moment (too too darn many other obligations of my time) I'll out it in another perspective. Say you ahd a good friend locally that was a brother. he invited you to attend a dinenr that his lodge was holding you now have some access to teh lodge maybe the hwole buidling ona tour of the facialities or simply the dining area you will be exposed to soem fo teh secrets but as a non memeber you would ahve no clue to the true meanings of them by brothers. You'd feel somewhat uncomfortable though knowing that they may be secret signs and such when in reality they are no different to brethren than any other aid to memory. Here where I work they implemented new comuter passwords and to help folks try to remember the form and function they suggested using aids to memory not to unlike what we've been taught in lodge! At any rate there are any number of public functions where the lodge building and the lodge room are open to the public and we always encourage folks with any curiosity to tour the building and ask questions. thsi means that the paintings & such and symbols that are permanently affixed are viewable to the public so I feel that something suimilar to this in SL or cybersapce if done respectfully & tastefully can be and is a fitting tribute to Freemasonry. I'm proud to show off the lodge rooms and the building where I am a member I can see folks being the same way about a cyber lodge space.
