Does any one know of the "regularity" of Grand Lodge of Ireland? I think it is Regular but I don't want to take any chances, because the lodges of Jamaica are under dispensation from GLI... or of any info on regular Jamaican lodges. Because, I will be visiting Jamaica this summer.
Thanks for the help.

Mon, March 24, 2008 - 3:23 PMI don't know the answer to your question, but it sparked one of my own....
How did Jamaican lodges get under the auspices of the GLI? -

Re: Grand Lodge question
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 6:19 PMThere certainly is a Regular Grand Lodge of Ireland. It had Lodges here in the 1800's (GL Scotland, Ireland & England - the later being the most numerous) all had lodges in Melbourne - they later came together under UGLV (our second GL - the first was GLV) in 1890...
One can only assume that trade was the source of the relationship between India and Jamaica.. but that's a guess... I know some Indian Masons - I will ask them and get back to you !
Certainly the procedure here is to have your Lodge Sec (or GL Sec) write you a letter of Introduction and take your MM Certificate when visiting OS... but ask your Lodge Secretary. We have a "Masonic Guide" - always supplied to Secretaries but others can buy them - and these have an up to date list of recognised GLs.. - do you guys have a similar guide ( listing all Lodges, WMs & Secs with contacts for all Lodges working under our GL and also a list of international GLs .. ) ) -

Of course !
I saw GLI as "Grand Lodge India" rather than "Grand Lodge Ireland" - I have India on the brain at the moment.. Of course it would be an Irish Travelling Warrant - many of them were - and if memory serves my right - the Irish came up with the Idea of the Travelling Warrant ! -

Re: Grand Lodge question
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 5:31 AMBloke (or whoever said it) is correct. Your Lodge Secretary should have access to a List of Lodges or something similar. The GL of NY publishes one every year. It lists the recognized Lodges in this Grand Jurisdiction, as well as the Grand Lodges that are recognized by the GL of NY and their subordinate Lodges. The easiest thing is to ask your Secretary.
Safe Travels!
