YAY! My Mid-Missouri lodge has done me proud. Last week we raised an african-american as a fellow master mason in our lodge. For years missouri lodges in Kansas City and St Louis have been integrated, and we have had african-american members visit our lodge, but now we have some diversity in our own rolls. I think that even a few years ago this would have been (sadly) a difficult achievement.
Unfortunately this is not the case in other parts of this country. heck, even in some other parts of Missouri I doubt that a black man would have been granted admission to a mainstream Blue lodge. Some southern states still do not reconize Prince Hall lodges. It is indeed a shameful dark mark on our brotherhood in the US, but one that is slowly dissapating.
Gentlemen, how does diversity in your lodges look? I am curious to see if this is a trend in other parts of the country as well?

Re: my lodge is now integrated!
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 5:22 PMIt seems to be ok here in PA. But we have had and understanding with Prince Hall not to go after african americans and thereby weaken them. It is totally unwriten and was told to me by many other members. We do recognize Prince Hall and I have met many of the men who meet in the same temple we do. I really never understood the separtaion. A good man is a good man. -

Thu, June 19, 2008 - 9:11 PMCongrats on getting a new brother Loofah !
<Gentlemen, how does diversity in your lodges look? >
Age - very. Youngest is 22 and the oldest in his 90's
Country of Origin - all over the place ! Lots of Aussies - but also we have a few accents :)
Race/Colour/Religion (whatever) - does it really matter ? No ! But since your asking we have one Chinese guy and one Muslim and God only knows what other religions - we certainly have both Catholics and Protestants. We don't have any "Black" guys -but that is not too surprising - Melbourne's African Community is very small. We do have a dark skinned huge barrel chested guy from Mauritius in GL who is a Sword Bearer. At 1/4 Comms there were all sorts of men from just about every continent represented (don't know about Antarctica - and I cant think of any South American Freemasons who are members in Victoria) but there were folks from Asia, Europe, Nth American (patented rep from GM of Kansas), and Australia of course.
As you will be aware - we dont have "Prince Hall" here.

Wed, July 30, 2008 - 9:09 AMBrethren.
Unfortunately things are not so bright in the “ ol bigot state” of Maryland. All though there is formally an acceptance of PH by the GL of AAFM of Maryland, the process of a PH Mason to visit an AAFM Lodge follows.
The PH Brother contacts the Secretary of the lodge he wishes to visit.
Secretary informs the WM, then the Brothers vote on the right to visit.
If Fair, the GM is informed then the GL of PH is informed the Bro may visit.
This is how the WM explained it to me. I may be a little off. I’m told the process is similar for a Bro who wishes to visit PH. Oh did I mention, that as the WM was explaining this to me one of the past masters chimed in and said, “ its good it’s that way, it will be a cold day in hell before I sit in lodge with a ******”
Mean while PH lodges are thriving in Maryland, and AAFM is barely holding its head up. The way I look at it there are two positive things, in two years I’ll be master of my lodge, and in five to ten years the majority of the members of my lodge will most likely be dead. Looks like a fresh start, at least for my lodge.
